The Old Quay is a well-known pub in Parkgate, undergoing a full internal refurbishment ahead of reopening.
As part of the renovation programme, the pub required its external beer garden and seating areas to be brought back up to the same high standard as the newly refurbished interior.
The outdoor seating area is a large paved space that has not been cleaned for many years, resulting in heavy surface soiling and chewing gum contamination.

The Old Quay, Parkgate
Client Type
Pub/Hospitality
Services Delivered
- Beer garden deep cleaning
- Paved area restoration
- Chewing gum removal
- High-pressure superheated water cleaning
- Pre-opening exterior restoration

The Challenge
The paved beer garden had built up years of dirt, staining and chewing gum, leaving the area tired-looking and inconsistent with the pub’s upgraded interior.
With the pub preparing to reopen, the client needed:
• The outdoor seating area fully restored
• All chewing gum and surface contamination removed
• Works delivered quickly and efficiently
• Minimal disruption to the ongoing refit works
The cleaning also had to be carefully scheduled to align with the internal refurbishment programme and reopening deadline.
Our Solution
Rokjet was appointed to carry out a full restoration of the beer garden and paved seating areas.
We deployed two separate cleaning units using high-pressure superheated water, along with our own on-board water supply, allowing us to work independently of the site utilities and maintain consistent cleaning performance.
This approach enabled our team to deep clean the paved areas, remove chewing gum, and strip years of built-up dirt and surface contamination.
All works were delivered prior to the pub’s reopening, in a carefully planned and timely manner to ensure minimal disruption to the internal refit operation.
The Results
The outdoor seating area was fully restored to a clean, fresh and welcoming condition, bringing it back in line with the high standard of the newly refurbished interior.
All dirt, staining and chewing gum were removed from the paving, significantly improving both the appearance and usability of the beer garden.
The pub reopened with an external seating area that complemented the full renovation and supported a strong first impression for customers.
